Spanish Present Perfect Tense

Usually in spoken Spanish you will hear the Spanish present perfect tense more than any other past tense.

There are a few conditions you have to follow to make sure you use the correct Spanish past tense. These are all for the present perfect tense.
  1. Must be about something that happened in the past.
  2. No other mention of time can be used in the same context.

Basically, you will use the past perfect tense to ask or say if something did or didn't happen.

Don't ask when, don't describe the situation, but just if it did, or didn't happen...

How about an example?

Have you bought the grocieries?

Notice I didn't ask when, I just asked if it happened or not.

He hasn't study yet.

This is another example because we are not saying when the individual did or didn't study. We're just stating that he didn't.

Spanish Present Perfect

Now in Spanish you will always use the verb haber (to have) to form the present perfect tense.

And like we covered in the last lesson, you will always use the conjugated form of haber with the past participle. (If you need to review the Spanish past participle go here.)

Who ever you are talking about, conjugate the verb haber for them. Then add the past participle form of the verb after.

Conjugations of 'haber'
he
has
ha
hemos
héis
han

Here's an example...

Spanish Sentence:Él todavía no ha estudiado.
Literal Translation:He yet no has studied.

So the hardest thing is to memorize which conjugation of the verb 'haber' to use. Here is a mini-quiz to help you out.
