There are a lot of
opportunities to learn Spanish abroad. And if you
ever have one I
suggest you take it. It is a once in a lifetime thing.
I would have to say that learning a
language in a
country is probably the
fastest way to get the overall experience:
language and culture. It comes with the cost of a pretty penny though,
so most of us can't afford it. However, if you're looking into
education and a school abroad, let me share with you some of the
experiences my family and
I have had.
First
of all, believe it
or not, there are schools that teach Spanish, that aren't in a Spanish
speaking country. Funny I know. These programs dot the maps in Paris,
France, Italy, and London, England. Europe is flooded with them, and so
is America. They are great schools, and the teachers are usually
natives, but, as soon as you leave the classroom, you are no longer
immersed in the culture or the language. If you're going to spend the
money, why not just go to the real country?
I
can tell yo
about my experience in Mexico, because I've been there a few times.
I'll tell you the good and the bad.
I can tell you about Ecuador from my
family's experience. They went twice.
And one of my best friends went to
Spain, and she can tell you what to expect if you go there.
I also have a friend that lived in Puerto
Rico for several years. Here is here experience.
Personally, I think that some of the
better programs to learn Spanish abroad are in Mexico, Ecuador, and
Spain. I can tell you a more about them too
because I have
experienced them. And you can trust my suggestions
because I don't make any
money when you take my advice for one of them.
You can also find some in Peru, Argentina,
and most Spanish speaking
countries. Mexico,
Ecuador, Puerto Rico, and Spain are well established
programs and have been around
for a while. There are usually plenty of reviews that you can find
about them, good and bad.
Trust
me, you want to know as
much as you
can, different cultures can create different problems. And
it only gets
worse when you are new to the language.
Check out as many resources online as you can before making your
decision and you'll be happier for it.
